An HVAC unit is something many people want to learn about, but in the end they think it's way too hard to learn about. This doesn't have the be the case, however. This piece can make it simpler.
Before an HVAC expert comes to your home to do any repair work, walk around the home and check out the temps in every room. Determine which rooms feel cold and which feel hot. That way, the contractor will have an easier time diagnosing the problem and repairing it fast.
Clean your outdoor condensers often. Leaves, twigs and other troublesome objects can accumulate, particularly after very windy weather, and this will wreak havoc on your system. Also, you are risking your system overheating.
Clean your condenser's fan blades and coil in the spring. Before you do anything, however, turn the power off. Then, remove the grill, then remove the blades and begin the cleaning process of the blades and the unit.
Cover your unit when you are mowing the lawn. Shoot the grass away from the unit. The same should happen if you are blowing leaves, so be especially careful when you are going by your exterior HVAC devices whenever you are moving debris.
As the trees around your home lose leaves, it can cause your HVAC unit trouble. Whenever leaves are falling, consistently clean the fan grill. If your fan is obstructed, it can keep your system from working properly.
If you have oil ports as part of the fan condenser, annual lubrication is key. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps. Use SAE 20 oil that is lightweight and detergent free, and put ten drops or fewer into each one. Make sure not to overfill them.
Make certain that an outdoor unit is in the shade. This will limit the work that it has to do.
Check your unit at least twice each year. This should happen in the fall and the spring. Even if everything seems okay, it doesn't hurt to check things out.
As the temperature outside drops, remember to turn off your outdoor condenser unit. Once the temperature drops into the 50s, the unit should no longer be on. This will ensure your system stays in good working order every year, saving you money on costly repairs.
Understanding your HVAC system is not that complicated if you read the helpful tips in the above article. The above tips can help simplify your experience. Begin now to start doing well!
