Having an HVAC system that works well is a joy, but one that malfunctions can cause all kinds of grief. Poor systems can cost you more money and frustration when they break. Making sure you pay attention to advised maintenance and repair can help prolong the life of your HVAC system and save you money over time. The tips below will help you determine whether your current approach to HVAC system maintenance is as good as you want it to be.
By the end of spring, the fan blades and coils of your condenser should be thoroughly cleaned, so operation can proceed with greater efficiency. Before you clean the surface, be sure to turn off the power. Remove leaves and debris from the outdoor unit.
If your condenser units are outisde, make sure any debris is cleaned from them regularly. Leaves and debris can accumulate quickly, particularly following storms, and that can cause problems for your system. The whole thing can overheat, causing major problems and possibly an enormous expense for you.
Leaves falling from trees can wreak havoc with your HVAC unit. During this time of year, check and clear off the fan grill on your unit on a regular basis. The fan needs unobstructed air flow, and if debris is blocking this air flow, then your system could suffer.
Check to determine if the fan condenser on your HVAC system is equipped with oil ports, and if it is, be sure to lubricate every year. You'll see that the ports here are closed with a rubber or metal cap. Choose an oil graded SAE 20, it is non-detergent and lightweight. Place about 10 drops into each of the ports, taking care that it does not overfill.
When you are choosing a location for the outdoor compressor unit, it's preferable to use a shaded area. The cooler air that the unit can suck in, the less work it will need to do to further cool the air.
In order to boost efficiency, place new outdoor units or move your current unit to a place which resides in the shade. You save money this way because the air conditioner is now pulling in cooler air, which is easier to cool further.
Be sure you have the HVAC unit in your home checked about two times every year. Check into it twice a year before you head into the hot and cold months. This type if preventative maintenance is highly necessary to ward off any expensive troubles from coming your way.
Pane Windows
If possible, your single pane windows should be replaced with double-paned ones. Double pane windows can help minimize how much you use your air conditioner in the summer, because they keep cool air inside the home. Conversely, they keep warm air in during the winter.
To know how large of an air conditioner you need, look for a calculator online. A unit that is bigger than you need simply isn't efficient. You can look online or do other research to get information from HVAC system manufacturers and sellers in order to determine the best unit size for your needs.
To make your home liveable and comfortable, your HVAC system is an important part of that. If you do not maintain it properly, you may find that it breaks down. Avoid this by using the tips listed here.
